People held protest against bad roads, demands registration of FIR against contractors

Kishtwar, Sept 18: The people of village Keshwan, Sirgwari, Thakrie and its adjoining areas today held a strong protest against the poor condition of Thakrie road from Kuriya Pul and demanded action and registration of FIR against the contractors and the R & B department for criminal negligence that lead to the tragic accident on this road resulted into the death of 18 persons and injury to 15 others, some of them critically and are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Jammu/ PGI Chandigarh and are battling life threatening disability.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the angry people assembled at Kuriya Pul some 15 KM from Kishtwar and block Kishtwar-Chatroo-Srinagar National Highway for hours together. The protestors raise the slogans in support of widening of Kuriya-Keshwan road besides its black topping without any further delay. They allege that several crores has been withdrawn against the construction and called upon the government to constitute the high level committee to probe into the embezzlement of funds meant for construction of the said road.
The people also demanded full state funding for the injured accident patients who are undergoing treatment at Jammu and Chandigarh hospital added that all the patients had suffered fatal injuries that required lakhs of rupees for treatment.
After several hours shutdown and road blockade, in absence of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, ADDC, ADC and SDM Chatroo, Tehsildar Kishtwar Shokat Hayat Mattoo along with Executive Engineer R7B Division Chatroo Mohinder Kumar Sharma reach out to the agitating people and requested them to call of the protest.
Tehsildar Kishtwar assured the angry people that black topping along with road widening on 12 KM Kuriya to Sirgwari will be completed in next one month beside also assured them that the work on Sirgwari-Srawan road will be taken on war footing base. He also assured them that he will take up the matter with senior officials with regard to providing of free treatment to the injured till they discharged from the hospital and recovered fully from the injuries they suffered in the accident.
On the assurance of Tehsildar Kishtwar, the angry protestors call off the protest and the traffic was restored on the highway after four hours. The protestors threaten to come on roads in case the administration and the government fails to fulfill its promise.
