Municipal polls won't be a cakewalk for BJP
'It's 2018, not 2014; you can't take for granted Jammuites'

JAMMU, Sept 19: Though the BJP is all set to finalise the list for candidates of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) going to polls next month, the resentment has begun against party leadership as many aspirants, who see no chance in getting the mandate, are accusing the leadership of being unfair in making selections.
According to sources the BJP which is already facing criticism of the masses for its failure in fulfilling the poll promises made in 2014 Parliamentary and Assembly elections is also under the anti-incumbency factor of which its rivals will take a full advantage during the campaigning for both municipal, local bodies and Panchayat elections.
The BJP will also face damage due to rebellion within in case the selection of candidates was not fair, sources added.
They said the party's failure in getting the inclusion of names of those displaced people in nine municipal wards of Jammu where they made sizeable number of voters has also put a challenge to it in these wards as majority of these people in 2005 municipal elections had voted for BJP and given party a victory in most of these wards with the result its candidate remained mayor for three terms in the JMC.
Sources said however the situation is altogether different in Jammu this time. The BJP is facing anti-incumbency factor coupled with internal bickering over selection of candidates and lack of coordination among the leadership in implementing the party's policies and programmes unitedly and highlight its achievements regarding development etc.
Sources said even though selection list of candidates for JMC was not issued some staunch activists have started criticising the party for having a soft corner for those activists who had left the party twice earlier and joined the bandwagon of rebels. They have also warned the leadership of serious consequences in case such candidates were given tickets in ensuing elections of JMC.
These leaders also warned the party that same blunder was done in 2014 Assembly elections afar which BJP lost some seats which otherwise would have been won by it easily and its tally could have been gone more than 25 in Jammu region, sources added.
Sources said that not only this but also some outsiders who joined party on the time of elections were given mandate without knowing that they may tarnish its image after elections despite warned by some saner party activists well in advance. The party faced this problem later as some legislators openly violated the party discipline and worked as per their sweet will. Even some of them openly challenged the party leadership and created indiscipline in the organisation which was always harping on the name of organisational discipline.
Sources said in case BJP could not silence the rebellion within its position will be awkward in the ensuing Municipal and Panchayat elections and this will have its repercussions on the coming Lok Sabha elections in the State also.
The party leadership in last four years of power at Centre and then in State has already been facing a drubbing for not maintaining a good liaison with ground workers. Though it has made a hue and cry on booth level workers and given slogan 'Booth Jeeta tao Chunav Jeeta', on ground its implementation is not encouraging as ground level activist feels dejected and ignored by party leadership, sources added.
Sources said in case BJP fails to restore confidence of these ground level workers and also maintain a coordination in its leadership to take on opposition unitedly Municipal and Panchayat elections will not be a cake walk for the party.
Sources said the people on ground are also annoyed as they accuse the party of not coming to tis expectations despite the fact that Central sponsored projects with thousands of crores were brought for the State in general and Jammu region in particular but the party leadership till date failed to highlight the same. Even in last three years of its Government the Party failed to get work started on some prestigious projects sanctioned by Union government over four years back for the state.
Another main cause for the party is that its leadership is mainly concentrating on Kashmir Valley, ignoring its stronghold Jammu, sources added.
