DH Rajouri lacks health facilities

Rajouri, Sept 20: Though the health services at District Hospital have shown many improvements for the last many month yet many changes needs to be made urgently despite the fact that the Government Medical College is coming up at Rajouri and likely to be start functioning from the next academic year. Once known as 'referral hospital' due to inadequate strength of doctors/ paramedical staff, latest equipments/ machinery, health service presently is up to the mark now. Despite improvements due to personnel efforts of Dr. Mehmood Bazar, Medical Superintendent and fully supported by Dr Suresh Gupta, Chief Medical Officer and district administration. District hospital still functioning without adequate strength of sanctioned posts of consultants/doctors and paramedical staff.
According to Dr Mehmood out of 25 sanctioned posts of consultants/ specialists (Including NHM) 11 are vacant, out of 33 post of Medical officers (Including NHM, homeopathy MO, blood bank MO & dental surgeons) 20 posts are vacant while out of 123 paramedics (Including NHM) 30 posts are vacant. District hospital still lack facilities like no accommodation for the doctors/pharmacists in hospital complex, ICU, Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for liquid Waste Management and manifold oxygen plant, well equipped modern mortuary, high dependency Unit to manage obstetrical emergencies etc. Two lifts were installed in the year 2014 by the then Health Minister Shabir Ahmed Khan and since then remained non-functional due to separate power transformer. Dr Mehmood said, physical achievement data of the hospital has improved grossly with introduction of dialysis, laparoscopic surgery, physiotherapy unit, CT Scan unit made functional after 3 years and availability of other modern machinery/ equipments. "All the machinery/equipments required at secondary health care facility are available and functional besides availability of emergency drugs/consumables including anti-snake venom, anti-rabies vaccine" said Dr Mehmood. 6-bedded ICU, high dependency intensive care (HDICU) unit to deal with obstetrical emergencies, an emergency/trauma room is ready to be inaugurated soon, he added. He informed incinerator for solid Bio Medical Waste Management is functioning while temperature management in critical areas like SNCU, OT and labour room has been ensured. "High Dependency Unit, six bedded intensive care unit and modern mortuary block are nearing completion and will be made operation soon" said Dr Mehmood.
