J&K BJP's resolution on Rohingyas dangerous
Akhnoor Executive Meet
9/20/2018 10:54:16 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Sept 20: Deportation of Rohingya from Jammu was the long-standing demand of the people of Jammu. They had been demanding their deportation on the ground that they constituted a live threat to not just the demography of Jammu province but also constituted a threat to national security. They had also been demanding their deportation on the ground that the Rohingyas were involved in "subversive" and all kinds of criminal activities, including girl trafficking, thefts and selling minor girls, and the crime rate in Jammu had increased mani-fold since 2008, when the NC-Congress coalition government settled them in Jammu district and Samba.
The people of Jammu had hoped that the BJP, which was at the helm of affairs at the Centre and was also part of Jammu & Kashmir government, would address all their concerns and deport them, but it didn't happen. The result was that the people expressed resentment over the BJP's Rohingya policy. They organized several demonstrations against the BJP in particular.
It was only three days ago on September 17 that the Jammu & Kashmir BJP's Executive Body met at Akhnoor for full day. It adopted a number of resolutions that day. One of the resolutions that was moved and adopted was on the presence of Rohingyas in Jammu. It was a dangerous resolution.
The resolution, among other things, said: "Rohingyas should be kept at one place in Jammu till the time they were not deported from Jammu". The demand of the BJP should have been unambiguous but it adopted a resolution that virtually endorsed their presence in Jammu and Samba districts. The BJP could have at least demanded the relocation of the Rohingyas. Or, it could have asked the Governor's administration to shift to the Kashmir Valley. By adopting the resolution that "Rohingyas should be kept at one place in Jammu till the time they were not deported from Jammu", the BJP has only rubbed salt on the wounds of the people of Jammu province and helped the separatists directly and indirectly, who want to change Jammu's demography and convert Jammu into Kashmir. The BJP will have to pay the price of unpopularity in Jammu during the upcoming Urban Local Bodies polls and Parliamentary elections in 2019.
