World Mental Health Day celebrated at different Govt. Schools of Jammu Division

JAMMU, Oct 11: In order to create awareness about mental health among school students, World mental health day was celebrated in different government schools of Jammu Division.
This initiative was taken by counseling cell of Directorate of school education Jammu under the guidance of Director School education Jammu Rakesh Kumar Srangal. The theme of this year's world mental health Day is Young people and mental health in a changing world. This years theme is very relevant to the schools as most of the adolescents happen to be school students.
The list of Schools, where programmes/activities were held are Government Higher Secondary school Canal road, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Satwari, Government Boys Higher Secondary School Gandhi Nagar, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Chhanni Himmat, GHSS Bahu fort GHSS Bakshi Nagar, GGHSS Miran Sahib, GGHSS Bazar Qasaban, GHSS Nagrota Gujroo,GHSS Shiendara Poonch, GHSS Budhi, HSS Durang Bhadu Zone, and HSS Jourian,GHS Digiana,GHS Deeli,GMS Railway Colony,GMS Karyani talab,GMS Charagwali etc.
The activities organized by different schools on the day were lectures by Psychiatrist, counselling cell members, faculty members and even students, Yoga sessions etc.During these interactions students were motivated to seek professional help in case of any mental health issue without feeling any kind of stigma. They were also imparted tips to stay mentally healthy.
Dr.Vinod Dhar, a renowned Psychiatrist and Romesh Kumar, Head Counselling Cell, at Directorate of School Education Jammu were resource persons during a function held at Government Higher Secondary school Canal road,Jammu.Dr Vinod Dhar had an interactive session with the students covering important sub topics related to Mental health like peer pressure, stress management drugs abuse, relationships and others.
Romesh informed all the present about various initiatives of School education department in general and of the counselling Cell of Directorate of school education Jammu in particular for ensuring stress free happy schooling. He encouraged the students to be resilient and maintain positive mental health.
Already, on the directions of Secretary School Education, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, sessions on examination stress management are being organized in different schools of Jammu division falling in winter zone benefitting hundreds of students who are taking board exams.
