KVKs celebrate Women Farmers day

Jammu, Oct 15: Various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated Women Farmers Day (Mahila Kisan Divas) to recognize the contribution of women farmers in agriculture here today.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra Reasi celebrated Women Farmers Day (Mahila Kisan Divas) to recognize the contribution of women farmers in agriculture here today at Malad village in Pouni block of Reasi district of J&K. The programme was attended by a large number of women farmers of the village with great zeal and enthusiasm. The programme was organised under the guidance and supervision of Associate Director Extension and Incharge, KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi in his welcome address appealed the women farmers to sustain farming and other allied activities and develop themselves up to the level of agri-entrepreneurs. He briefed about the significance of event and highlighted the immense contribution of women in improving the agriculture and national economy.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra Doda, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organized one day programme on the eve on Mahila Kissan Divas at Village Batora of the District under the guidance of Dr RK Arora Associate Director Extension (KVKs) SKUAST Jammu. Team of scientists from KVK Doda, Dr Ravneet Kour, Dr AS Charak and Dr Narinder Paul organized the event. The Programme was attended by 42 farm women where in the role of women in food and nutritional security was highlighted and their contribution to the agriculture and allied sectors was appreciated. While speaking on the occasion, Dr Ravneet Kour, Senior Scietnrist & Head KVK Doda highlighted the contribution of women in agriculture and allied sectors and marked the importance of the day in motivating the women to adopt recent advances and scientific technologies in agriculture and allied sectors.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba under the aegis of SKUAST Jammu celebrated Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas at its head quarter at Samba. Women farmers, women entrepreneurs, farming organizations, agricultural scientists and researchers from different parts of the samba district actively participated. This day was started in 2016 by the government of India to observe 15th of October every year as Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas. On the occasion, Professor R.K. Arora, Associate Director Extension and In charge KVKs of SKUAST Jammu was the Chief Guest where as CDPO, Samba was guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Cheif Guest of the function, Professor R.K. Arora said women can propel the country towards second Green Revolution and they can change the landscape of the development if they get opportunities and facilities. In rural India, the percentage of women who depend on agriculture for their livelihood is as high as 84%. Women make up about 33% of cultivators and about 47% percent of agricultural laborers.
