PDP unwilling for alliance with NC
10/15/2018 10:31:48 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 15: Even as a senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party had been lobbying for alliance with the National Conference, the PDP has decided not to go ahead with the prospective deal with the arch-rival.
Sources said for the past around a month, a businessman-turned-politician had been lobbying hard in his party for alliance with the NC. But that the top leader of the PDP has decided "not to pursue the idea any further."
Sources said the said politician had been trying to convince the PDP chief that it would be in the interest of state to form alliance the regional party and to keep the Bharatiya Janta Party away.
Sources said the politician and his "fellow businessmen friends" had been repeatedly "begging" before a senior PDP leader that alliance needs to be forged.
The coterie had been trying to persuade the party chief that the Abdullahs were ready for the deal. But a senior leader of the PDP is understood to have finally conveyed a "categorical no."
"She (senior) PDP leader told him (party colleague) and his friends that any such alliance would not be in the interest of her party and that if they plan to doom the party," said a source privy to the development.
It was reliably learnt that the party decision has put the "lobbyist coterie" in a state of shock. "He (businessman turned politician) wanted to improve his own rapport before the NC and wanted to show that he can make and break alliances but the decision of the party leadership has cut him to his size," the source said.
Sources said the PDP leadership wanted to see the intentions of this leader in question. "We were keeping a watch on him and what we found is that through this deal he wanted his self projection as a 'powerful leader' but it would have come at the cost of the party affairs," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the development has upset the businessman-turned-politician as his "dreams of getting projected as the most influential politician in the regional politics have dashed."
Sources said New Delhi was keeping track of developments and is fully aware of the lobby which wanted to project itself as being "kingmakers."
Despite repeated attempts the PDP leader in question couldn't be contacted for comments.
