AMU Row: UP Govt refuses to budge
Sedition cases not withdrawn, anti-national elements in soup
10/15/2018 10:39:13 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 15: The Uttar Pradesh Government taking a strong note about a few Kashmiri students raising anti-national slogans and making an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere at Aligarh Muslim University campus.
Sources told Early Times that the UP Police have identified the students who tried to organise funeral prayers in absentia for the scholar turned militant Manan Wani, who was killed in an encounter with the security forces in north Kashmir last week, and UP Police are likely to take action against a few students under law.
They said that the students who had indulged in vitiating the atmosphere in the campus are trying to build pressure over the other students to raise the banner of revolt against the AMU authorities to save themselves from facing action.
On Monday students issued a statement stating that the sedition and other relevant charges against two Kashmiri scholars have not been withdrawn, and administration is creating more fear among the students."As the campus is turning hypersensitive, and fear is increasing, parents are calling students to return to Kashmir," they said.
The students said: "We are firm on our stand that 1200 students from J&K at AMU will return to Kashmir, in case sedition charges are not withdrawn."
Sources said that UP government is firm on its stand to deal with anti-nationals and the elements who want to preach sedition and glorify the terrorists and the terrorism.
An analyst said that the Kashmir centric leaders have started beating their chest and are asking the UP government to soften its stand. "It's unfortunate that politicians are playing politics over a serious issue. They should stop interfering in the sensitive issues as it doesn't fall in their domain. The decision of the UP government to nail the anti-national elements is a right move. It would serve as a deterrent for others who indulge in such activities."
Referring to Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's statement that is offering Nimaz-e-Jinazah a crime now, the analyst said, "Offering Nimaz-e-Jinazah is no crime but glorifying terrorists and terrorism is definitely a crime in India. No one would be allowed to do it."
He said that Kashmiri students getting involved in terrorism related activities are a cause of concern. "Recently Chandigarh Police arrested three Kashmiri students and recovered arms and ammunitions from them. Such elements could put the career of other students, who are not involved in such acts, in jeopardy," the analyst added.
