9 yrs on, GREF fails to complete upgradation of Rajouri-Budhal road

Early Times Report

Rajouri, Oct 16: Despite a gap of about 9 years, the GREF authorities have failed to complete upgradation work on 54 kilometre Rajouri-Budhal road.
Due to bad condition of the road the people of Budhal, Khawas, Kotranka, Kandi , Gabbar etc areas falling under Kotranka sub district have been suffering lot.
People alleged that bad condition of the road resulted in low frequency of private transport on this road and the worst sufferers are students, government/ private employees and the patients besides common masses.
Official sources said that the upgradation work on this road was taken in the year 2010 by 110 RCC company of GREF under 31 BRTF and since then the work for up-gradation is in progress.
"Instead completing the up-gradation work during stipulated time frame the condition of the road has become worst due to potholes, dumping of material etc" said M Z Sagar member of AJKYF, a NGO.
Initially the work was delayed on this road due to encroachment by the people on GREF land at about 240 places which was removed by the district administration. But even after removal of the encroachments the GREF has not expedited the up-gradation work on this road.
On Saturday last a protest demonstration was organised at Budhal by the office holders and members of All J&K Youth Federation (AJKYF) under the leadership of MZ Sagar and had expressed their resentment against long delay in the completion of up-gradation work.
They alleged people suffer lot whenever there were rains. They warned GREF and other civil authorities associated with the up-gradation work for early completion of the work.
Recently, District Development Commissioner (DDC) MA Asad held interaction with the people of these areas at Budhal and the issue was also raised before him.
While assuring DC said; "I will personally look after the up-gradation work and will ensure early completion of the work".
On Monday a deputation from Budhal also raised the Rajouri-Budhal issue before B.B Vyas, advisor to Governor who was on one day straight visit to Rajouri.
