#MeToo encourages Kathua

Early Times Report
kathua, Oct 18: Trending #MeToo has encouraged a minor, a student of 10th standard, to raise her voice against the sexual harassment that she faced for many months. Marichi (name changed) has alleged that she had been facing sexual harassment and teasing by a staff member of Government High School Rajbagh Kathua.
Mariachi alleged that Shamsher Singh, 57, an employee of the school molested her for months. She accused the School management of deliberately ignoring the shameful act. "Matter was swept under the carpet by the management despite a complaint lodged before it" the victim stated with regret.
The victim informed that the female members of the staff put the matter before headmaster but no strict action was initiated and no complaint was registered with higher authorities or the police.
It is pertinent to mention that in the year 2012, the Parliament of India has passed the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) for the victims of child sexual abuse below 18 years of age.
The sentence may extend from seven years up to life imprisonment along with fine under section 4 of the POSCO Act.
The victim sought stringent disciplinary inquiry against accused and justice under child abuse act. She also sought inquiry against management that threatened her to keep silent for saving the reputation of school. This act of management encouraged accused to repeat the attempts of molestation outside and even inside the school premises.
When contacted, Headmaster High School Rajbagh Maru Din, was seemingly non-serious about the complaint of the victim and its legal ramifications.
Chief Education Officer Kathua was unaware about the offence but assured to initiate an inquiry, followed by a complaint in police.
