Thin line divides separatists, mainstream in Kashmir
Both camps speak same language

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 20: A line between the separatists and mainstream leaders in Kashmir is turning notoriously blur with each passing day, with the people in a fix.
The statements nowadays being issued by the mainstream leaders surpass those issued by the separatists. The content is almost same and it is becoming difficult to even differentiate whether it's a mainstream or a separatist leader speaking.
Sample this. On Saturday, PDP accused the central government of turning Kashmir into a theatre of war while strongly advocating that action against the militants should be stopped and rather reconciliation should be undertaken.
On the counting day, when results of the ULB polls were out, instead of praising the people for exhibiting the courage to vote and strengthen the democracy in the otherwise troubled land, the PDP termed the polls a "complete mess."
"The deteriorating situation in Kashmir has already put halt to the institutions and holding elections at this juncture was tantamount to further demolition of the democratic institutions as the candidates who contested in the polls don't even have any knowledge about their respective areas," said a PDP spokesman in a statement on Saturday. He said that reports suggest that a huge amount was spent in the polls. "It is on record that crores of rupees were spent in the state but that yield nothing," said the PDP spokesman. He even went further and said that there was a need of political solution to the problems. "I believe that the government should have focused on holding talks with those who are angry so that any solution can come out."
The PDP spokesman even at such a juncture dragged Pakistan-backed Hurriyat Conference demanding that central government should talk to it so that the issue is resolved at an earliest.
This is not all. Even the PDP general secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura issued a detailed statement in which he accused the central government of pushing youth of Kashmir to the wall. As per the statement, he condemned the spree of arrests being launched against the youth in Valley and slapping of Public Safety Act against them becoming rampant. He added that such state actions besides being deplorable are explicable as well as there is no justification of pushing the youth of the state to the wall and militating against them with such a might.
This is now becoming amply clear that the mainstream camp in Kashmir is speaking the separatist tones and such a trend is proving disastrous at large. Earlier last week, the PDP chief mourned the killing of a militant in Kashmir. "Today a Ph.D. scholar chose death over life & was killed in an encounter. His death is entirely our loss as we are losing young educated boys every day. It is high time that all the political parties in the country realise the gravity of this situation and try to facilitate a solution through dialogue with all the stakeholders including Pakistan to end this bloodshed,'' she had said in her tweets on October 11.
