Early Times Report

Rajouri, Oct 23: In a significant development, BMO, Kandi health block in Rajouri district has recommended to CMO for the termination of a doctor and junior staff nurse (JSN) both appointed on contractual basis under NHM) for putting the life of pregnant woman in danger by not providing timely treatment. The incident had taken place on September 29 when one Mohd Rafiq brought his wife to health centre at Budhal at about 11 pm and the doctor Farooq Mir and JSN (both on night duty) didn't attend the patient properly and on JSN's report the doctor referred her to district hospital at Rajouri.
As the ambulance was not available, the family members hired a private vehicle but before they could shift the woman, she gave birth to a stillborn child outside the hospital ward.
Next day, Mohd Farooq, woman's husband in a written complaint approached Dr Iqbal Malik , BMO who appointed a 3 member committee to investigate the complaint and submit the report within a week time. He had also relieved the doctor and suspended the JSN and had attached them both with the office of CMO at Rajouri. "The inquiry report submitted clearly shows negligence on part of the doctor and JSN in providing timely treatment to the pregnant woman. Their lackadaisical attitude towards their legitimate duties had also put the life of the mother in danger "said BMO in his report to CMO.
BMO in his recommendation to Dr Suresh Gupta, CMO has said that timely medical help to the pregnant women could have provided relief to the woman and the situation would have not worsened.
BMO has also said as the negligence on part of doctor and JSN had also put the life of the mother at risk, so they don't deserve to be continuing in such a vital department that deals with the lives of the patient and hence their services under NHM should be terminated.
Dr Farooq Mir reportedly had claimed that it was a case of intrauterine fatal death and that's why the patient was referred to the district hospital.
