Mehbooba again attacks PM Modi, says PDP-BJP alliance failed
PDP for Pak, separatists

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 23: Former J&K CM and PDP chief Mehbboba Mufti has again attacked PM Narendra Modi and said that the alliance between the PDP and the BJP was an utter failure. Her grouse against the PM is that he has abandoned the Vajpayee's Kashmir line and adopted a hard approach towards Pakistan and Kashmir.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to follow Vajpayee's message of dealing with the Kashmir problem with 'insaniyat, jamhooriyat, Kashmiriyat' (humanity, democracy and Kashmiri-ness). The PDP thought that with such a huge mandate, Modiji was in a position to do that, as he had time and again said he would follow Vajpayeeji's policy of insaniyat on Kashmir. But this was not the case with this NDA, headed by Modi," Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said, and added that Kashmiris were dead set against the alliance between the PDP and the BJP.
"The Kashmiris were dead set against the alliance, but were ready to give it a chance. Unfortunately, the BJP this time did not take this opportunity to turn around things, as was done by the last NDA under Vajpayeeji," she said.
Her refrain was that the Ramzan ceasefire announced by the Modi government was also called off after a month when there was a spike in violence and claimed that the ceasefire was announced at her insistence, but she wanted it to continue and the BJP refused. "The ceasefire was a positive step, but if it was taken forward, it would have created a better atmosphere. Every time I met the Prime Minister or Home Minister Rajnath Singh, I reminded them about the agenda of the alliance," Mehbooba Mufti said.
She also expressed satisfaction as far as her achieve as the CM were concerned. "The appointment of former Intelligence Bureau chief Dineshwar Sharma as the special interlocutor on Kashmir, granting amnesty to stone-throwers, and announcing the Ramzan ceasefire are a great consolation," she said.
As for the alliance of the PDP with the BJP, Mehbooba said that "she has 'no regrets' about her party's now-defunct alliance with the BJP - not even if it led to deep unpopularity and 'hatred' for her party among Kashmiris". "It was a selfless decision of a statesman, which only a person like Mufti sahib could have taken: Keeping people's interest above his own self. So, there are no regrets that we risked everything to do our best for the people who have given us so much love and respect. We tried our best, putting everything at stake, including our party, bore the hatred of Kashmiris, just to see an end to their misery," Mehbooba Mufti said.
