Revolt in JK unit of Youth Congress wide open
Jammu leaders boycott meet to protest Kashmiri leaders' dictatorship
10/23/2018 11:11:40 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 23: The office bearers of Indian Youth Congress from Jammu have openly revolted against the alleged dictatorial attitude of Kashmir-based leaders by boycotting the executive committee meeting.
The boycott by Jammu-based leaders of the Youth Congress led to the cancellation of visit of National President of Youth Congress, Keshav Chand Yadav, and his deputy BV Shrinivas to Srinagar.
Moreover, to avoid further embarrassment in front of the national leadership, the executive committee meeting was converted into introductory meeting of newly elected Congress councillors of the Valley at the residence of a senior Congress leader in Srinagar.
Sources informed Early Times that the first executive committee meeting of newly elected state unit of Youth Congress was scheduled to be held at Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters Srinagar at 11 am on October 23.
According to the invite, the meeting was scheduled to be chaired by Yadav, Shrinivas, and Youth Congress Secretary in charge J&K PYC Shishpal. All the office bearers of PYC, district president and AYC president were asked to attend the meeting mandatorily.
Sources said that the Jammu-based office bearers of JKIYC were against the holding of meeting at Srinagar. "Of total 34000 membership of Youth Congress nearly 33000 are from Jammu region and remaining 1000 are from Kashmir region including Ladakh", sources said, adding that out of total 195 newly elected office bearers, nearly 162 office bearers belonged to Jammu province and only 26 belonged to Kashmir and 5 from Kargil.
Moreover, nobody from Leh, Kulgam, Bandipora and Shopian districts participated in the election. "Only 8 district presidents, 5 district office bearers, 6 assembly presidents and 12 assembly office bearers have been participated and elected out of 12 districts and 50 assembly constituencies from Kashmir province including Kargil and Leh", they said, adding that even then the leadership was adamant to conduct meeting in Srinagar.
The office bearers from Youth Congress from Jammu were unanimous to hold executive committee meeting at some central place, such as Batote or in Jammu given the majority members as well as office bearers and the security scenario in the Valley.
"The Kashmir-based Congress leaders were trying to secure some points before national leadership by holding meeting at Srinagar, but actual ground situations were not in favour of Kashmir-based leaders", Youth Congress leaders said.
Sources further divulged that the Jammu based leaders were also annoyed over the decision of election authority of the Indian Youth Congress over disqualification of its Rajouri unit newly elected district president and declaring son of a senior Congress leader as district president.
"He had got less votes but was son of senior Congress leader, so was declared winner, which was an open fraud", a youth Congress leader said, adding that they had also apprised the national leadership about such fraud during their visit to New Delhi. "Election authority of Indian Youth Congress had played a partial role during the election of IYC and declared some over aged and unqualified persons as office bearers in one district", they alleged, adding that due to unity among the Jammu office bearers, the national leaders had to cancel their visit.
Moreover, to cover up the embarrassment, sources said that the executive committee meeting was converted into an introductory meeting of newly elected Councillors of Municipalities.
