Now, stone pelters target media in Kashmir
Will NC, PDP condemn it?
11/1/2018 11:40:42 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: At a time when the mainstream and separatists in Kashmir are speaking in one voice and are eulogising the stone pelters, what remains to be seen is whether the National Conference and the PDP break their stoic silence over the violent stone pelting incident in central Kashmir on Thursday in which even media wasn't spared.
Stone pelters smashed the windshield of the OB-van of a media organisation even as the vehicle was identifiable with a large dish antenna fitted atop its roof and 'Press' placard posted on the front.
The crew was on an assignment covering the encounter in which two terrorists were gunned down by security forces in the Zagoo, Arizal area of Budgam district on Thursday morning.
Later on, security forces had to provide a cover to the reporters and cameramen, forcing the stone pelters to retreat.
Now what remains to be seen is whether the NC and the PDP that have been acting as shields for the stone throwers in Kashmir Valley would come out and condemn such acts of violence. Or, both the parties once again would remain locked in their own shells and remain notoriously silent?
During the past few months, the Kashmir-centric mainstream parties seem to have been adopting a policy of siding with the separatist elements and do not call a spade a spade. There are statements being issued by the NC and the PDP in which they try to show their sympathies with stone pelters, militants and separatists.
Just merely two days ago, NC vice-president and former Chief Minister of the state Omar Abdullah openly sided with the stone peters and ever argued with the Governor over the issue.
"Let me say this publicly so that Governor Sahib is under no confusion - civilians should not throw stones & should not rush to encounter sites. I'm not saying this publicly for the first time & it won't be the last time I'm saying this," Omar tweeted.
"At the same time we can't treat stone throwers as terrorists & randomly keep shooting them but that's a conversation for another day. Right now I'm curious to know how Governor Malik Sb knows what I think privately," Omar added.
The statement from the NC leader came out at a time when stone pelters killed an army soldier in south Kashmir and injured many others.
The state Governor too has smelled a rat into the statements being issued by the both NC and PDP while trying to fish into the troubled waters.
Governor Malik during his recent interview even stated that whatever unprecedented violence the state has to bear at present is because of the wrongdoings of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti when she was the CM.
"I admit the fact that while Mehbooba Mufti was the Chief Minister of the state, the militant recruitment got increased and stone pelters too got away easily while pelting the stones. And what we are reaping at present is what the coalition did in the state but at that time those who were in alliance partners in the government should have reacted to the mistakes being done. Today, I am not answerable to their wrongs," Governor Malik said in an interview.
