Guv makes babus jittery in State
KAS officers to face music for not submitting property details

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 2: J&K Governor SP Malik seems to have tightened the grip over the administration in the state, with strict directions being issued to all officers of Kashmir Administrative Service to submit their property details within one month.
Highly placed sources in the dispensation divulged that the Governor has asked the Chief Secretary to issue directions to all KAS officers that they have to submit detailed property statement within a month. Failing so, the accountability apparatus shall be pressed into service in the state and those who do not adhere to the directions would face the music.
This is for the for the first time in the history of the state that the officers of the KAS cadre have been asked to submit their property details irrespective of their batch and posting. Earlier, such an exercise was mandatory for the officers of the IAS cadre and not for the KAS.
With such a vital direction being issued, it is being believed that many skeletons are going to tumble out of the closet of the state administration and several officers who otherwise in the past used to enjoy impunity due to being closer to the power corridors are this time finding themselves in the midst of the swirling tides.
"The Governor from the very beginning was determined that the property details of the KAS officers are needed to be made public and even directed the administration that as and when the property statements are submitted by the KAS officers, same should be put in public domain through official government websites. Therefore, from now on, the property details of the bureaucrats shall be at the fingertips of the common man of and state and just a click away. What is more interesting is how would those officers be feeling now who earlier thought that no one would ever touch them," says an official privy to the development.
Since last week, the Governor has been making startling revelations about how the corruption in the state has been witnessing an unprecedented spike and how corrupt are ruling the roost. He has even been publicly exposing the politicians for undermining the authority of the vital institutions of the state and paving way for the 'blue-eyed' candidates.
Meanwhile, the entire state dispensation seems to be on tenterhooks over the next possible move of the Governor in tightening the noose around the corrupt officials. The Governor in several of his interviews was candid enough in stating that tacking the corruption menace in the state is going to be his first priority and that is the main mission that he will accomplish besides the other priorities.
So, will he make the corrupt face the law or these parasites will once again get away with their faults and blunders? Only time is going to tell. As for now, they are having the sleepless nights.
