NC, PDP to 'support' Congress against rebels in SMC
11/5/2018 10:40:17 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 5: Apprehending threat to the "political existence of Abdullahs and Muftis", the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party are allegedly trying their best to the keep "rebels" led by Sajad Gani Lone away from power in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
While Sajad Gani Lone's Peoples Conference has put weight behind, former National Conference spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu, who recently joined the PC, the rebels from the Peoples Democratic Party led Imran Reza Ansari are also supporting him.
Sources said the alliance between Lone and Ansari has "unnerved both Abdullahs and Muftis who fear an end to their dynastic rule".
Sources both the NC and PDP have been allegedly busy with hectic lobbying to let Congress win the chair of Mayor in the SMC.
Sources alleged that some of the politicians from twin parties have assured "big financial package for the middlemen who will make councilors vote against Sajad."
Sources said both Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are taking "personal interest" to keep Sajad-Imran alliance away from power at civic body in the summer capital.
Sources said a top PDP leader recently called on phone, a lawmaker from Sonawar constituency, to ask their proxies vote for Congress in the SMC.
"Latif Ji a close relative of the PDP MLA and their other proxies have been directed to vote for Congress at any cost and the lawmaker has been given a big deal to so the same," said a source.
Sources said the lawmaker from Sonawar, who was otherwise marginalized by the PDP, is finding himself on cloud nine to have received phone call from the top PDP leader. "A phone call that assured of a 'deal' was enough for him to say, don't worry 'Madam', I will put everything at stake to achieve our goal," said a source privy to the conversation.
Sources said the PDP has told Congress to accommodate "hamara aadmi", a bank defaulter at a key post in lieu of support for Mayor.
Sources said another PDP leader presently camping abroad has pledged to "defeat north front." "Right from his contacts in Muzaffarabad to those in Srinagar, he is lobbying hard," said a source.
The National Conference, on the other hand, has allegedly extended its support to the Congress. "There are some five six proxies of the NC, and they have been directed to vote for Congress," the sources said.
It was reliably learnt that the Abdullahs have dedicated their team of leaders including one from Budgam and the other from Saida Kadal for the task.
"We have been told that to uphold the dynastic rule of Abdullahs, Sajad-Ansari rebellion has to be checked by letting Congress win," said a NC worker on the condition of anonymity.
A senior NC leader talking to Early Times said it was "do or die situation" for them.
Despite repeated attempts, the NC-PDP leaders couldn't be contacted for comments.
