Early Times Report
Hiranagar, Nov 19: People hailing from villages along International Border in Hiranagar sector from Chakra to Marheen today expressed their resentment against apathy of both state and union governments.
They said that large percentage of people depend on agriculture but due to presence of army bunkers in their lands they are unable to harvest the crops that affects their livelihood.
Kuldeep Sharma, a farmer disclosed that Indian Army in colloboration with Border security Force constructed hundreds of bunkers in agricultural land and occupied 10 marla fertile land in 1971-72 during war with Pakistan in emergency which are still available and useless. He informed that these bunkers affected their agriculture land and livelihood of the farmers hailing along International border.
Jia lal sharma, another farmer informed that the demand of compensation was put forward several times before both state and union government but nothing has moved till date.
He added that the land was fertile and could be used in a better way if the bunkers are removed.
The villagers expressed resentment against tall claims of Bharatiya Janta party and NDA government that despite of having several schemes to facilitate the farmers, nothing has been done for their welfare.
They resented that nobody bothered about the abandoned bunkers constructed several decades ago.
They appealed union government to conduct a survey for the actual land occupied by these bunkers all over and due compensation must be given to the farmers.
