NC corners BJP on new Track II in Kashmir
'Will write letter to New Delhi, seek reply'
11/27/2018 11:12:51 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 27: A day after National Conference President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked New Delhi to clear its stand over former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne Bondevik holding meetings with separatists in Kashmir to be followed by similar talks in Pakistan, the NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and other senior leaders joined the chorus.
While Dr Farooq Abdullah asked the Bharatiya Janta Party to clear its stand on meeting with the separatists, NC's senior leader in Jammu Devinder Singh Rana also sought clarification from the right wing party.
Sources said the NC has credible inputs that the talks in Kashmir were facilitated by a spiritual leader who is seen as close to the BJP and that thus the regional party wants to "expose the right wing on its double speak."
Sources said the NC would be holding meeting in Srinagar later this week to formally write a letter to New Delhi to seek explanation on the silence maintained by the BJP government over the track II.
Sources said on behalf of the spiritual leader, a political analyst had approached the separatist leaders for talks with the visiting dignitary.
As per the inputs, the Norwegian delegates held closed door talks with both Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Geelani's residence in Hyder Pora. But JKLF Chief Yasin Malik was kept away from the talks.
In the surprise move, the former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne Bondevik on November 23 held meetings with the separatists, rising speculations over possible mediation efforts for peace in Kashmir.
Interestingly, it was under his leadership that Norway negotiated peace between the Sri Lankan government and LTTE rebels in 2005.
Bondevik visited Kashmir only a day after India and Pakistan agreed to open the Kartarpur Sahib corridor for Sikh pilgrims.
Bondevik, who held the position of Prime Minister of Norway till 2005, is presently the head of Oslo Centre for Peace and Human Rights.
As per reports, he was accompanied by a representative of the spiritual guru for his Kashmir visit.
The Hurriyat leaders had welcomed the visit as it was for the first time in six years that a foreign dignitary had met them. The delegation had also met some civil society leaders.
