Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Nov 29: Two local militants owing allegiance to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in an encounter at Sharshali-Khrew in South Kashmir's Pulwama district in the wee hours today. The slain militants were said to be close associates of HM commander Reyaz Naikoo.
Reports said that police and security forces received inputs that some militants are hiding in the Sharshali locality in the Khrew area. Following this the whole area was cordoned off and search operation was launched in the area to kill the militants.
As the police and security forces reached near the house where the militants were hiding they were fired upon. The fire was returned and an encounter ensued between the two sides. The encounter culminated with the killing of two militants belonging to HM.
The slain militants were identified as Adnan Ahmad Lone resident of Braw Bandina, Awantipora and Adil Bilal Bhat alias Umair Al Hizbi resident of Malangpora, Pulwama. Both the slain militants were said to be very close to HM commander Reyaz Naikoo. A police spokesman said that based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Sharshali area of Khrew, a cordon and search operation was launched swiftly at predawn hours today jointly by police and security forces in the area. As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.
"In the ensuing encounter, two militants were neutralized and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They were identified as Adnan Ahmad Lone alias Uqaab son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone resident of Braw Bandina, Awantipora and Adil Bilal Bhat alias Umair Al Hizbi son of Bilal Ahmad Bhat resident of Malangpora, Pulwama. Both were affiliated with HM. As per police records, Adnan Lone was known as district commander of Pulwama for HM," said the spokesman.
Police said that both the militants were wanted by the law for their complicity in a series of 'crimes' including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities. Adnan Lone was one of the top commanders of HM and had a long history of 'crime' records since 2015. He had escaped from encounter site at Srinagar earlier. Adil was also involved in several 'crimes'. Among several other offences he also figured in killing of HC Ashiq Hussain at Awantipora in October 2017. Huge quantity of arms and ammunition including rifles were recovered from the site of encounter.
