Mehbooba seeks refuge in pro-separatist agenda again
Links opening of Kartarpur corridor with 'bilateral talks'
11/29/2018 11:38:39 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 29: Peoples Democratic Party president and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has been shouting at the top of her voice that opening of Kartarpur corridor could be a "new beginning" of reconciliation between India and Pakistan.
She has completely ignored the statements of the External Affairs Minister Sushma Sawaraj and the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat that the opening of this corridor has got nothing to do with the resumption of "bilateral talks" between the two countries as both have made it clear that "terror and talks" cannot go together.
"Kartarpur can be a new beginning of reconciliation between the two neighbours. We cannot change our borders but let us make them irrelevant by facilitating trade and encouraging people to people contact. This will usher in peace & progress for both India & Pakistan," Mehbooba said in a tweet.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that Mehbooba is trying to remain in news by raking up the issues which have got nothing to do with the politics of Jammu and Kashmir. "Central government on many occasions have made it clear to the Kashmir centric leaders to concentrate on their own work and don't poke their nose in the matters which don't fall in their domain," he added.
The analyst said that opening of Kartarpur corridor has provided Mehbooba and her party a chance to once again appease the separatists and the Pakistan agents in the Valley. "The PDP leaders have upped the ante and are demanding that other roads connecting Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan occupied Kashmir should be reopened. They are doing so to just gain the political mileage and raise one more slogan before the elections," he added.
A Kashmir watcher said, "PDP knows it very well that if it has to win some seats in Kashmir it would have to go back to the activists backed by the separatist forces. In order to keep them in good books the PDP is once again raising the slogans which suit their ideology."
A politician said that PDP's dismal performance during its three year rule and its pro-separatist agenda is not hidden from anyone. "The PDP wants to take it forward by linking simple gestures with Kashmir. Someone needs to tell the PDP chief that New Delhi has made up its mind to put a nationalist dispensation at place in Jammu and Kashmir and mainstream politicians who talk in the language of separatists and Pakistan are no more welcome," he added.
