Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Dec 15: Kishtwar District spread over the area of more than 7800 Sq miles is continuously suffering due to the non availability of anesthetist as the same has hampered the routine operations and surgery in District Hospital Kishtwar. As a result of this the poor patients suffer badly and are being forced to refer from Kishtwar hospital to various hospitals of Jammu Division.
As per the details available with Early Times, several patients were referred to Doda and Jammu hospital from Kishtwar Hospital in last two months as authorities despite promising the posting of the Anesthesia doctor fail to fulfill its promise.
Speaking to Early Times Burhan Wani, member of local NGO Ababeel who offers the free services to the poor people in Kishtwar District said that they approached various quarters both at Government and Administration level with regard to posting of anesthetist, but nothing was done.
He said that the people held a protest last month after the death of the two year old child who was denied critical ambulance, the authorities despite promising the same, fail to post the doctors at Kishtwar or the additional critical care ambulance sanctioned several years ago for Kishtwar Hospital.
Another member Ababeel Umar said that their NGO is ready to construct the Hospital with all facilities available at Kishtwar in case the government provides free land to them. He said that they are also going to approach Auqaf Islamia Kishtwar for transfer of the land on lease basis in favor of NGO Ababeel so that they could construct the hospital.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Kishtwar Dr. S D Attri said that he had taken up the matter with Director Health Services Jammu with regard to non availability of Anesthetist in the hospital. He said that the Anesthesia Doctor who has been deputed to Kishtwar Hospital is yet to join his duties added that another medical officer dealing with anesthesia is on leave.
Social Activist Shakir Siddiqui said that District Hospital lacks facilities as well as due to non availability of doctors. He said that over 70 posts including over a dozen posts of doctors are lying vacant in the hospital and called upon the concerned authorities to fill up all the vacant posts in the District Hospital Kishtwar.
