Kissan Sabha celebrates Foundation Day
1/11/2019 11:11:03 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 11: On the occasion of its 39th Foundation Day, the Kissan Sabha held a celebration function at Jammu today. A presidium comprising master Swaran Singh, Uday Chand and Tek Chand Sapolia presided over the function. Founder president of Kissan Sabha, Hari Chand Jalmeria, while speaking on the occasion said that farmers comprise over 75% of the country's population. During the past 70 years of democratic rule in India, the farmers have been left far behind in the comparative development of society. They are not getting profitable prices for their agricultural produce, their children are not getting quality education and jobs, due to regressive policies of Govt. towards farmers, they are forced to divert to other fields and sell their lands. Conversion of use of agricultural and irrigated land for non agricultural purposes like building colonies, banquet halls, brick kilns, shopping malls, has put a big challenge to the existence of the farmers and rural economy which is so far based on agriculture and allied pursuits. Jalmeria added that the Govt. has remained silent spectator and worked against the interest of the farmers. Swaran Singh, Uday Chand, Tek Chand Sapolia, Dewan Singh, Sagar Chand, Ravi Singh,Shanker Singh Chib, Kuldip Singh, Kunj Lal expressed their views and highlighted the issues of the farmers. They said that the enormous growth of Monkey population has forced most of the farmers in Kandi and hilly belt to abandon agriculture and horticulture pursuits.
