Qazigund, Feb 10: In a shocking development, Jammu and Kashmir Police skipped the wreath laying ceremony for policemen killed in Jawahar Tunnel avalanche.
On Thursday last, a huge avalanche hit Police Post near Jawahar Tunnel, avalanche burring police post completely. Eight including six cops and two prisoners got killed. Two cops were rescued by locals with the help of teams of different security agencies on Friday morning. Bodies of slain cops and two prisoners were also recovered by rescue teams.
However, shockingly Kulgam police skipped to hold a wreath laying ceremony for martyred policemen who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Bodies of martyred cops were handed over to families on avalanche site by police, eye witnesses told Early Times.
"Dead body of martyred cop, who was resident of Munward Anantnag, was handed over to family at Qazigund emergency hospital," they added.
A noted Journalist Majid Hyderi expressed strong resentment against the Jammu Kashmir Police over this incident. "Even death is categorized now, sad days," a twitter user responded to Majid's tweet. Some Jammu Kashmir Police and army officers also rewetted Majid's his tweet.
DySP headquarters Kulgam told ET, "Our higher-ups better know why the wreath laying ceremony wasn't held for martyred policemen," .
