Disgruntled PDP leaders return to party fold
3/15/2019 10:59:54 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 15: Several disgruntled leaders of the PDP who did not get the party mandate to contest 2014 assembly polls are again joining the party.
These leaders, it has been learnt are promised a chance to contest the upcoming assembly elections.
Abdul Rouf Bhat resigned from the PDP after the party did not give him the mandate and instead fielded Altaf Bukhari from Amira Kadal constituency in 2014. He later joined the National Conference. After coming to know that NC will field Nasir Aslam Wani from Amira Kadal, Rouf resigned from the party and joined the PDP.
A PDP leader said that he joined the party after he was told that he will be party's candidate from Amira Kadal. "After Altaf Bukhari resignation, he decided to join the PDP," the leader said.
Similarly, former minister Syed Bashir resigned from the PDP after he was denied ticket from Rajpora Pulwama. The PDP had fielded Haseeb Drabu.
As Drabu has deserted the PDP, Syed Bashir is likely to join the PDP. "Talks are going on. In the coming days, he may join the PDP and could be party's candidate from Rajpora," the source said.
Similarly, former media advisor to Mehbooba Mufti Suhail Bukhari had resigned from the party. However, after seeing that Basharat Bukhari has resigned from the PDP and joined the NC, Suhail joined the PDP. "He will be party's candidate from Kreeri," the source said.
Similarly, some disgruntled leaders of the PDP have been holding meetings with the Third Front leaders and are likely to join us to contest upcoming elections together.
Third Front leaders have been holding meetings these days and discussing the strategy for the coming polls. Among the prominent, who have formed Third Front leaders are Hakim Yaseen, M Y Tarigami, and Ghulam Hassan Mir. Third Front comprises of PDF, CPI (M) JKNDF, SP, CPI.
A leader said their doors are open for everybody.
J&K is under President's rule after six months of Governor's rule, which began after the BJP withdrew support from the PDP in June last year.
The state assembly was dissolved by Governor Satya Pal Malik on November 21 citing the "impossibility of forming a stable government by the coming together of political parties with opposing political ideologies" and the "fragile security scenario in the state".
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has a six-year term while other assemblies and the Lok Sabha have a five-year term. Malik dissolved the assembly shortly after People's Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti staked claim to form a government with the support of the National Conference and the Congress.
