Early Times Report
kishtwar, Mar 15: At a time when the entire nation is demanding exemplary action against those responsible for overhead footbridge tragedy in Mumbai in which 6 lives were lost, government schools in Kishtwar district, constructed two years back have developed threatening cracks, arguably due to use of sub- standard material.
The school building of Middle School Akarhang of Kuntwara in Kishtwar district suffered major cracks within two years after the building was taken over by the school management.
As per the details available with ET, the School Education Department sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 5 Lakh respectively for construction of two school buildings for the accommodation of near about 100 school children studying in this school.
After receiving an amount of Rs. 15 lakh, the Education Department on its own took over the construction work through some contractors and completed the construction of said building in mid 2017 and accordingly handed over it to school management, but surprising the school building developed major cracks within two years.
Both the school buildings comprise Six rooms and fall under the Panchayat Hilor of Drabshala block.
Speaking to Early Times, Sarpanch Hilor Arif Hussain said that it was unanimously resolved to request the government for providing an alternative accommodation for the school till the necessary renovation of the school building was done. He said that the school building is unsafe and the copy of the resolution has been sent to concern department through local police post at Kuntwara since it is not feasible for the villagers to reach Kishtwar due to poor road connectivity.
The villagers urged upon the concerned authorities to look into the issue on priority so that the lives of the poor students studying in this school did not suffer. The villagers also complained about non availability of the staff in the schools falling in general area Kuntwara.
Despite repeated attempts, senior officials of Education Department could not be reached out for the comments.
