Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Mar 26: The withdrawal of security cover to Early Times Editor spread over to just two police guards appears to be a decision uncalled for, a freelance writer and social activist Jamwal Mahadeep Singh ex-SSP, said while reacting to the news on the subject.
As per statement issued here, it states the news paper has been a front line runner as whistle blower to expose many un-warranted activities of those misappropriating state exchequer, illegal activities of anti social element and nexus betwixt criminals, politicians and the administration.
It also states if this would have been the criteria for withdrawal of the security, it is condemnable and those acting as biased towards the said media house need to visit their decision on the matter. When the media is reasoned as fourth pillar of democracy, it is the prime duty of the government to provide reasonable security enabling this pillar to perform in the most required manner than leaving it to the threat perceptions merely because of the reasons that it acts independently and bring forth the misdoings of the government.
It further states the only security of all is in a free press but in the atmosphere where the free reporting is shackled for want of security is a matter of concern. In today's politics and society at large, media is essential to the safeguarding transparency of democratic processes. This is often called its 'watchdog' role. Media acts as a mechanism for the prevention and investigation of allegations of violations or malpractice.
