How successive Govts ignored Jammu dev projects
Projects announced with fanfare confined to papers
4/15/2019 11:37:49 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 15: Despite spree of announcements made by successive coalition governments for Jammu city, all have been a big flop before their claimed agenda of development.
The coalition Governments in Jammu and Kashmir State since 2002 PDP-Congress), NC-Congress in 2008 and PDP-BJP in 2015 have failed miserably in carrying out the works of development that were initiated from time to time.
As per the reliable sources, the NC-Congress coalition government announced artificial lake on Tawi River claiming that this project would attract tourists from different parts of the country and world and would prove a lifeline to tourism industry. ''Ironically, the project is still lingering on despite huge amount of funds being released for the project," sources revealed.
After formation of BJP-PDP coalition in 2015, the then CM, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed announced that the project is not feasible and hence our government is going to shelve it. But, the then Deputy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh said that project is in the best interests of Jammu and would be completed well in time. After holding big portfolio in three year coalition government Dr Nirmal and other ministers from his party did nothing for the completion of the project.
The proposed plan of developing Tawi River on the patterns of Sabarmati River of Ahmedabad, for which an MoU was inked between Jammu Development Authority(JDA) and Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) and also worth Rs. 75 lakh were paid to SRFDCL for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) remained confined to papers only.
Another project of Jammu city, the cable car project from Mubarak Mandi to Moh Maya temple has also been facing apathy of the government.
Besides this, The ambitious project 'Wagah Border like development of Suchetgarh Border' announced by late Mufti for Jammu also faced discrimination due to the changed priorities of CM Mehbooba Mufti after coming to power even when the central government had released funds for the development of same''.
The project of Four Lane from Satwari to Suchetgarh, a part of above mentioned project, is still awaiting its completion.
"If such has been the track record of all coalitions, what new and developmental can be expected from them based on which we would vote them in upcoming assembly elections'', said Amarjeet Singh, a businessman from R.S.Pura.
