Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Apr 20: In wake of the concern shown by some medical observers regarding the free flow of drugs in Kishtwar including that of abortion drugs has put the role of drug inspector posted in Kishtwar district under scanner as fresh reports reveal that other than free flow of abortion drugs, there is free flow of substandard drugs in the market.
As per the details available with "Early Times", recently few dead foetuses were recovered from the premises of District Hospital Kishtwar which authenticated the claims of the whistleblowers, putting not only the role of hospital authorities under scanner, but also the chemist as well as drug inspector.
In recent past senior health officials held several meetings with chemists Association of Kishtwar on implementation of PC & PNDT Act which was also attended by the media persons. The officials while showing their concern over the free flow of abortion drugs in Kishtwar market urged upon the Chemist Association to help in curbing the free supply of such types of drugs in the market so that the problem related to female infanticide could be checked.
The administration also showed its unhappiness over ignoring of direction of former Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to the Drug Inspector Kishtwar to check sale of drugs used in abortion.
The under scanner drug inspector who not only skips the important meets in Kishtwar district has also failed to put gag on unregistered medical shops functioning in heart of Kishtwar town and its vicinity. He has also failed to check free flow of substandard drugs in the market going on for a long time in a well-coordinated nexus between the medical suppliers and shopkeepers.
The shopkeepers are very much busy in selling the substitute medicines instead of the one prescribed by the doctors, that too of substandard quality.
As per reports available with "Early Times", the drug Inspector is hardly seen in Kishtwar district and occasionally tours Kishtwar once in a month. Even if he occasionally tours Kishtwar, the visit remains confined to few shops in the district. The reports further said that the under scanner drug inspector checks the medical shop record in a hotel room as and when he visited Kishtwar or at the shop of a particular chemist.
Moreover the reports said that there is no record of drug seized from medical shops for random checking as no final report pertaining to the outcome of the lab test is being provided to the medical shop owners. As per the available details available, the Drug Inspector hardly visited the other areas of Kishtwar district like Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan, Chatroo and Paddar where large numbers of illegal medical shops are running without any fear who are selling the medicines to the poor people unchecked as people living in these areas are illiterates and were unaware about the medicines sell to them.
The reports also reveals that some chemists who are running small and medium shops have turn millionaires overnight and accumulated huge moveable and immoveable properties at Kishtwar and Jammu.
The people have urge upon the Governor administration to look into the matter by fixing the responsibility on the chemists who are indulging in illegal and substandard sale of medicines.
