Land to tiller law violated in Budgam
Old lady's land being taken back
4/20/2019 10:38:20 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 20: An old lady Hajira Begum from Gatapora area of central Kashmir's Budgam district has alleged that the land, her husband acquired under "Land to tiller" arrangement is being "forcibly" taken back from her.
"My husband late Gaffar Ahmad Ganie was in possession of the land, since decades. After his death in 2016, I have been looking after the land and cultivating that for livelihood," Hajira said.
Hajra in her 50's added that after the death of her husband, Showkat Ahmad Shirazi from whom they acquired the land has been using different "tactics" to take the possession of the land.
"We have been in possession of the land, since decades. Presently also, the land is in our possession. Irony is that we are being deprived from the compensation which we were to get in lieu of the electric tower installed at the land," she said.
"The tower has been installed in 2008. No compensation has been given, others have received. I have been suffering miserably as there is no earning hand in my family," said Hajra, a mother of mother four daughters.
Tehsildar, Narbal, Ghulam Mohammad Dar admitted that the land was in possession of Abdul Gaffar Ganie.
"After his death, the possession has been with his wife. Showkat Ahmad Shirazi managed to vacate the Intikal. Yes, he got the land under sections 4 and 9 but Shirazi challenged the intikal, it was set aside," he said.
"I have told his wife to approach the competent authority. I will give in writing that land was and is in possession of the family," he added.
The local numberdar, Tajamul Ishaq while confirming that the land was transferred to Late Abdul Gaffar Ganie under Sheikh Abdullah's land to tiller arrangement said that justice should be done with Hajra and her four daughters.
"The family has no source of income. As per my knowledge, the then Patwari had told Ganie that land has been transferred in his name," Ishaq added.
