Uddhav Thackeray's double standards exposed
'Wants no outsiders in Maharashtra, but wants Art 370 to go from J&K'

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 20: Shiv Sena chief, Uddhav Thackeray, whose party since its inception, has thrived on the slogan of Maharashtra belongs to Marathas only seems to have taken a strong exception to Article 370, which provides special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a public rally in the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha constituency, he asserted that if the BJP-led NDA comes to power, Article 370 will "definitely" be abolished.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that Udhav Thackeray's party Shiv Sena during the past 70-years has had only one slogan that "Maharashtra belongs to Marathas only and outsiders should be thrown out."
He said that Shiv Sena leaders have been openly opposing the influx of people from other states into Maharashtra.
The analyst said that in 2009 Udhav Thackeray openly opposed the new rental scheme of Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA). He had said that new rental housing scheme doesn't give preference to Maharashtrians.
He had said that the scheme would encourage outsiders to settle in Mumbai and thus raise the number of slum dwellers.
"They are working against Maharashtrian people and the Municipal Corporation. Fifteen-year domicile certificate must be necessary. MMRDA has removed it from their regulation," the Shiv Sena leader had said.
A politician said that someone needs to tell Thackeray that how can he apply different yardsticks for J&K and Maharashtra. "J&K is a very small place compared to his state. The Article 370 has helped in protecting the identity of the denizens of this state. Had this Article not been there by now Jammu and Kashmir would have been flooded by the outsiders. If a big state like Maharashtra cannot accommodate the outsiders how come a small place like J&K can become a home for them?"
He said that Thackeray should stop playing politics over Article 370 and its abrogation. "Thackeray should recollect what all he has been saying during all these years rather than delivering sermons on Article 370," the politician added.
Thackeray, while referring to the statement of Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti, had said, "People who claim that if Article 370 is revoked Kashmir will not remain a part of India and nobody will hoist the tricolour are promoting terrorism and are challenging the integrity of the country."
Another analyst said, "Thackeray and his party should know that J&K is not only about Mehbooba Mufti and others. It's about the people, who are ready to sacrifice their lives for the integrity of the country. Leaders like Thackeray and Mehbooba Mufti should stop playing politics over the issues which are dear to people. Udhav Thackeray should first change his stand about not allowing outsiders in Maharashtra. Then only he should talk about abrogation of Article 370."
