Polling pattern all set to disturb Mehbooba's apple cart
Her attempts to appease Pak stooges don't yield any results

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 23: Polling pattern in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday indicated that the Peoples Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti, may have to face an uphill task in next two phases in the same constituency.
Mehbooba is contesting her seventh election from south Kashmir. Till date she has contested six elections from here. She had won all the elections but this time around it seems that chips are not in her favour. Her desperate attempts to lure the voters by acting like a separatist and emerging as a "cheer leader" for Pakistan seems to have not worked.
Many people believe that Mehbooba was banking on the votes she would have got from the Jamaat cadres and others with separatist leanings in south Kashmir but her "calculations have not fallen at place." "Her loyalists, who were mostly the followers of Pak agents, seem to have ditched her this time. As a last ditch attempt Mehbooba on Monday, just one day before the polling day, tried to convey it to the separatists that she can also be the spokesperson of Pakistan to appease them. Her statement that Pakistan has not kept its nuclear weapons for Eid triggered an outrage across the country," said a politician.
He said that Mehbooba's anti-national rhetoric has become outdated as no one takes her seriously anymore. "Since the day she has lost the power she has played all the cards. She has tried to divide people on religious lines. She has projected herself as the advocate of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami and other parties with separatist leanings. She had even threatened that more Salah-ud-din’s and Yasin Maliks will be born if her party is split," the politician added.
Despite her warnings and threats the PDP stands at cross roads as most of the leaders have left and few have been expelled from the party.
An analyst said that the voting pattern in today's elections is a pre-cursor about the pattern which south Kashmir could witness in next two phases. "When PDP was in power it just tried to tell New Delhi that elections can't be held in south Kashmir as terrorists were calling the shots. The PDP leaders during their tenure tried their best to protect the subversive elements and did not allow the security agencies to take decisive action against the terrorists active in the south Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti and her colleagues left no stone unturned to derive maximum political mileage by propagating anti-national agenda. Despite indulging in all dirty tricks, PDP has failed to achieve what it wanted and today the PDP president is facing a very difficult situation," he added.
