Early Times Report
anantnag, Apr 24: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's brother, Mufti Tassaduq Hussain, who is also member of legislative council, on Tuesday didn't turn up at the polling booth to cast his vote for the Anantnag parliamentary seat
Mufti Tassaduq Hussain, former Jammu and Kashmir tourism minister is out of state from the day BJP pulled out from alliance, sources told Early Times.
They said that Mufti Tassaduq Hussain didn't even campaigned for his sister Mehbooba Mufti despite being a legislator and having headed the tourism department for at least two years.
Former minister also not only preferred to stay away from polling booth but also has apparently maintained a huge distance with the party and its leadership.
Mehbooba Mufti's close relatives also stayed away from polling booth. Her cousin brother Mufti Sajad also didn't turn up at Bijbehara polling booth to cast his vote, however his father Mufti Amin exercise his right to franchise. Mufti Amin is brother late Mufti Sayeed.
Mufti Sajad, who also enjoyed some amount of power when the party was in power, also didn't campaign for Sister Mehbooba Mufti in Anantnag. He is state secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Sajad resigned from IFS services in 2015 and joined Peoples Democratic Party.
"He is in Jammu and has reportedly conveyed to Mehbooba Mutfi that he will not work for the party until it's not decided from which party he will allowed to contest assembly elections," sources privy to this development told Early Times.
98% percent poll boycott in Bijbehara assembly segment is also being attributed to Mufti Sajad's intentional nonappearance in constituency as he enjoys good support of PDP cadre in Bijbehara.
National Conference Vice-President and Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday mocked Mehbooba Mufti by saying 'she didn't get vote of her brother'.
"I don't hold any grades against people of Bijbehara because I was surprised to learn that Mehbooba Mufti's brother, who is a legislator in upper house didn't turn to vote in favor of her sister," Omar told media after addressing a gatherings in Harnag area of Anantnag.
NC Candidate Justice Hassnain Masoodi went further and said that she was rejected by her own brother.
Bijbehara on Tuesday witnessed lowest voter turnout of 1.9% as only 1905 voters out of 93289 voters turned up at polling booths.
