Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 25: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has reportedly achieved a major breakthrough in the killing of top RSS leader Chanderkant Sharma and his security guard inside district hospital Kishtwar on April 9.
The intelligence sources told "Early Times" that Naveed Mushtaq Shah alias Naveed Babu, a resident of Shopian, along with Haroon Abbas Wani alias Moin-ul-Islam, son of Ghulam Abbas Wani, of Furqaan Abad, Ghat Doda, Osama Javed, son of Javed Ahmed, of Dachhan, and Zahid Hussain Sagar alias Masoom, of Dachhan, were involved in the killing of Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO Rajinder Kumar.
The sources said that Naveed was a police constable before he deserted the police and joined militancy. With the help of Haroon Abbas Wani and Osama Bin Javed, Naveed crossed over to Kishtwar with a task to eliminate the RSS leader who was considered as a major hurdle by the militants as he played a key role in fighting the militancy in Chenab belt in the 1990s when militancy was at its peak.
The sources said that after shifting to Kishtwar with the help of Haroon Abbas Wani, Naveed found support in the form of another local militant Osama Bin Javed and OGW Zahid Hussain who after conducting the recce of the hospital premises carried out the attack and killed the RSS leader and his PSO. They escaped from the spot with the help of Zahid Hussain Sagar who provided his vehicle in transporting them outside Kishtwar town from where they all crossed over to Dachhan area which is considered as safe haven for the militants.
Following the surfacing of his name, Zahid Hussain Sagar, a motor vehicle mechanic, went into hiding and Kishtwar police and other security agencies had declared him an active militant.
Kishtwar police is also said to be working towards the identification of the OGW network that provided logistical support to the militants by offering them food and shelter in Kishtwar town and its peripheral areas before they carried out the deadly attack.
Meanwhile, the sources said that intelligence agencies have warned of more attacks on political and religious leaders including a senior BJP Muslim Morcha leader and another RSS leader. Besides, they have also warned about possibilities of more weapon snatching incidents and asked the security personnel to remain alert.
The intelligence agencies have also informed about the movement of unidentified militants in Dherna forest area of Marwah.
