JDA holds anti-encroachment drive, 387 kanals retrieved
Locals accuse JDA of being selective; ask to get back lands from influential

JAMMU, May 20: Anti-encroachment drive held by Jammu Development Authority (JDA) at Chak Sardar, Phalan Mandal area of Jammu on Monday morning and claimed to retrieve 387 kanals land whereas locals of the area accused JDA of being selective and asked them to get back land from influential too.
The JDA the team accompanied by Police personnel and Revenue officials for full demarcation of the area turned heated argument between locals and officials. Meanwhile, senior officials of Police department intervened and asked locals to be calm and do not get involved in the Government process.
On the occasion, locals raised anti-government slogans and alleged that authorities of being selective in anti-encroachment drive.
Slamming the act, sarpanch of the area asked that people have been living in the area for last more than 50 years and suddenly the authority came in start drive where they are sleeping before. She alleged that there are other places where government lands have encroached but no action has been taken against them, only poor locals are being targeted.
Ex MLA Sukhnandan accused authority of being selective approach and said there are so many areas where the politicians and influential encroached the JDA land but they did not dare to take any action against them. It seems they are targeting poor people who are staying here last 40 years. Like other government lands, it should be regularized for the welfare of the locals and take compensation from them.
By evening, an official press statement claimed that directions of Vikas Sharma, KAS, Vice Chairman, JDA, a six hour long drive was carried out successfully and securing of 387 kanals of prime JDA land falling under Kh. No. 351, 352 and others situated at Village Chak Sardar Attar Singh, Tehsil Mandal, Jammu by the Khilaf Warzi /Revenue Wing of Jammu Development Authority under the close supervision of Sanjay Gupta, KAS, Director Land Management, JDA headed by Shruti Bhardwaj, KAS, Tehsildar JDA Zone-B assisted by Ramesh Kumar Bakshi, Tehsildar, Mandal and Arjun Singh Naib Tehsildar, JDA, while Fida Hussain, Naib Tehsildar, Mandal remained present on spot as Duty Magistrate. Besides these Khilafwarzi wing headed by Inspector Ramesh Kumar JDA also remained present during the drive
During the drive boundary pillars with Khasra Numbers marked on them and JDA sign Boards were also erected over demarcated JDA Land. Despite intense public resistance, the drive was successfully concluded with full co-operation extended by Vinay Sharma, SP South and Dr. Sunniya Ashkoor Wani SDPO South, Jammu.
SDPO South Dr. Sunniya Ashkoor Wani said no one got injured in this drive.
