Exit polls declare PDP, PC as 'nonentities'
Pollsters predict NC, BJP, Congress as strong contenders
5/20/2019 11:11:50 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 20: The exit polls results are giving zero seats to Peoples Democratic Party, which won all the Parliamentary seats in Kashmir in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Just before the news channels started airing the exit polls result on Sunday, the PDP held its first meeting after the conclusion of Lok Sabha polls in the state. The PDP top brass, according to the sources, expressed dismay over the PDP leaders putting up a poor show during the campaigning for the parliamentary polls.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that after BJP pulled out from the PDP led government in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP leaders started throwing tantrums and ultimately left the party or were expelled.
He said that PDP losing all the seats would be a big setback for the party. "There were reports that few PDP leaders are waiting for the Lok Sabha results and if the party ends up on the losing side a few more leaders may change their sides," he said.
A Kashmir watcher said that fall of the PDP in Kashmir would mean resurgence of National Conference in the Valley. "In coming days we may find mainstream leaders in Kashmir making a beeline outside the NC headquarters," he added.
He said that exit polls have not even mentioned about the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone. The PC has been claiming that it has won the Baramulla parliamentary seat in north Kashmir but the agencies, which have carried out the survey for the exit polls have ignored Peoples Conference. "This is not good news for Sajad Lone, who had been batting for change. The PC leaders had created a notion that their party has emerged as the alternative for NC and PDP in Kashmir and people have accepted them," the Kashmir watcher added.
He said that if Peoples Conference fails to open its account in Kashmir it could shatter the dream of Sajad Lone to become the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and it would mean that BJP would either have to depend on National Conference or put up a strong show in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Jammu region so that a leader from Jammu becomes the Chief Minister of the state.
