Contractors held protest against non release of payments

Kishtwar, May 21: Several contractors in Kishtwar District under the leadership of Tanveer Ahmed Mintoo and Shakir Hussain Siddiqui today held a strong protest against the government failure in releasing the pending payments of contractors beside also demanded removing of 15% cap on release of payments ending March.
As per the details available with "Early Times", large number of contractors today assembled in the premises of Executive Engineer R&B Division Kishtwar and held a strong protest against non release of payments by the department added that contractors are facing lot of problem in clearing the liabilities of laborers, material and to mitigate the other problems on financial front.
Speaking to "Early Times", Adhoc Chairmen of the contractor Association Kishtwar Tanveer Ahmed Mintoo said that contractors are facing lot of inconvenience due to non release of payments against work done since last over two years. He said that the new government policy to fix 15% payments release as first installment followed by successive installments after gap of months together has become a new headache for them.
He said that the payments should be made against the work done not as per the new cap announced by the government.
He said that contractors played key role in development of the nation added that several contractors had avail the loan facilities as a result of which they are facing financial losses. He said that imposition of new taxes also put extra burden on the contractors. He said that departments are issuing tender notices without completion of ground work added that tenders are floated against non funded works, non availability of land and urged upon the government to fix the bottlenecks before issuing any tender so that the developmental works could be executed without any hindrance.
He urged upon the Governor Satyapal Malik to look into the matter and get the pending payments of the contractors released.
Among those who were present on this occasion include Ishataq Ahmed Waza, Rashid Mintoo, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Altaf Hussain Butt, Jahinger Hussain, Nishat Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed, Ahsan ul Haq Mattoo, Sanjay Parihar and others.
