'Dilapidated roads, choked drains have made our lives miserable'
MLAs ignore Digiana areas: Local tells Munish Gupta
6/11/2019 11:44:14 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 11: Residents of Digiana on Tuesday castigated successive MLAs, who represented Gandhi Nagar constituency, for turning a blind eye towards their sufferings during all these years.
Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times who would be contesting upcoming Gandhi Nagar's Assembly constituency carried forward his mass contact programme in Rani Talab areas of Digiana and its adjoining areas Ward No. 45, Vishawakarma Chowk market, Udham Singh Mohalla and its market.
During the campaign, the locals narrated their woes to Munish Gupta and asked him to help them resolve their day to day issues.
A local Joginder Singh told Munish that the road from Rani Talab to Digiana Ashram which passes through Vishawakarama Chowk and High School Digiana is in dilapidated condition from past one decade and the successive MLAs who represented the constituency always ignored it. "Our area has faced step motherly treatment. Digiana lags far behind Trikuta Nagar and Nanak Nagar," Singh added.
"Every times during elections politicians made promises with us that your lanes and drains would be constructed on the pattern of posh areas of Gandhi Nagar but their promises were never executed on ground," said Gurdeep Kumar, a lecturer of Environmental Science and posted at Rajouri district.
He said that the drains are choked and filth remains accumulated near residential houses, the Safai Karamchari visits our area occasionally. The callousness on part of local Councillor can be gauged from this fact that after getting elected she never visited our area.
"However, during the MC election, the former MLA Kavinder Gupta promised us that just after concluding the election of Corporation, your road would be constructed on priority basis, but his promises proved hoax as after lapse of six month, our roads are still in dilapidated condition", said Nirmal Singh residing near the Udham Nagar Chowk,
Sardari Lal, a shopkeeper at Udham Singh Chowk said that he and his family residing there last two decades but his family members are still not enrolled in election list.
Satya Devi said, residing near Government High School Digiana said that successive MLAs who come in our locality made tall claims of development like road, lane and drains but after getting the votes they forget us.
"The lane which connects with Bhagat and Chib Mohalla from Vishawakarma and Udham Singh Chowk was constructed when Raman Bhalla was elected first time from our constituency but after that nobody came forward to develop our areas ", said Kuldeep Raj and added that however, the Jammu has come under the Smart City but this area is still facing step motherly treatment.
