Traders demand abolition of toll tax at Lakhanpur

Jammu, June 15: Expressing strong resentment over non-abolition of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur, despite implementation of GST (Goods and Services Tax) in the State, The Traders Federation Ware House Nehru Market Jammu reiterated demand to abolish Toll Tax at Lakhanpur.
The Traders Federation Ware House Nehru Market Jammu and various trade organizations of Jammu have strongly demanded that Toll Tax at Lakhanpur be abolished without any more delay. An emergency meeting was convened at Federation Office on the request of General Secretary Traders Federation Deepak Gupta, wherein presidents/ secretaries of prominent tarder organisation were invited keeping in view the continuation of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur even after the implementation of GST which has become a major source of resentment among the traders.
All the heads of different associations spoke in the meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Rattan Lal Mahajan, President Traders Federation ware house nehru market. The House was of unanimous view that Toll Tax at Lakhanpur should be abolished and as far as the safeguarding of few products being manufactured by the industries in the State, the House suggested that Government should find some other alternative to offer incentives to the industries in lieu of charging Toll on goods to the traders. Deepak Gupta while adressing the traders said that the slogan of ONE NATION ONE TAX was the sole initiative of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narinder Modi which has not seen the light of the day in the state of Jammu & Kashmir but implemented across India. "We are seeking abolition of toll tax ever since government introduced the GST," he added. He said that the collection of Rs. 800-900 crores on the name of State Toll Tax at Lakhanpur which at the end of the day is paid by the common man living in the state.
He sought immediate closure of the Lakhanpur Toll Plaza in the interest of the common masses. He said that any additional levies and cesses in J&K in addition to GST making essential commodities costlier which is not tolerated by the common man. He said it is the common man who is bearing the brunt of any such taxes levied in addition to the GST.
He said that toll tax on some items like edible oil, almonds and other consumable items at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza resulting in price hike. Deepak Gupta appealed to the Governor Satya Pal Mailk to take aforesaid matter seriously and asked concerned department to stop toll tax on all items at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza. Dheeraj Mahajan, Sr. Vc. President, Abhimanyu Gupta, Secretary and Vishal Gupta, Cashier of the federation, Yashpal Gupta, President Retailers Association, Surinder Mahajan, President Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association, Anoop Mittal, President Kanak Mandi Traders Association, Kirti Gupta, President Dal Association, Rajesh Bagotra, President Sugar Association, Atul Khanna, President Transport Association, Om Parkash, President Karyana Association, Ajay Gupta, President Onion association, Ramesh Gupta, President Oil Association and Sham Lal Gupta, Ex-Sr. Vc. President, Treaders Federation Ware House Nehru Market were the prominent present in the meeting.
