Early Times Report
srinagar, June 15: Despite government's tall claims, hundreds of employees who performed duties as polling officials during urban local bodies, panchayat elections are yet to get one month additional salary.
The state government had announced additional salary to all the government employees who were on poll duties during urban local bodies and panchayat elections.
The employees performed duties for 1,145 wards in 79 municipal bodies in Jammu and Kashmir. While the employees then performed duties for nine-phase panchayat polls in the state to 316 blocks in 4,483 panchayat Halqas comprising 35,029 panch constituencies from November 17.
However, hundreds of employees are yet to get their one month additional salaries.
"It has been eight months since we performed our duties on poll duties despite that we are yet to get one month additional salaries," an official of education department posted in Srinagar said.
The official said that authorities were not bothered to release their salaries.
"We put our lives on risk. The government also issued an order in this regard despite that we are not provided one month additional salary," the official added.
A source in District Development Commissioner Srinagar office said that not a single employee, who performed their duties, has received one month additional salary.
"We are still waiting for funds. Once we get the funds only the salaries will be released," the official added.
These employees are yet to get salaries despite government in December announced it has released one month additional salary for the employees who were deployed for election duty during the recently held municipal and Panchayat elections in the state.
"The drawing and disbursing officers have been authorized to draw the additional one month salary to the employees deployed on election duty on an attendance certificate by the concerned Deputy Commissioner or District Election Officer for the poll."
"Sanction is hereby accorded to the payment of one month additional salary/wages/remuneration as the case may be, in respect of employees as were deployed for conduct of Municipal, Panchayat Elections, 2018 or both," the government had said.
"In case any employee was deployed for conduct of either Municipal or Panchayat Elections or both, he shall be entitled to only one month additional salary/wages/ remuneration.
The expenditure on this account shall be debitable to Demand No. 10 with classification as under:- The requirement of additional funds, if any, will be projected by the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K to the Finance Department," it had said.
