Security cover to be upgraded for Yatris to Amarnath
6/16/2019 11:16:12 PM
Since the areas in south Kashmir have been highly volatile because of the presence of militants the state Government and the Centre have organised an upgraded security cov- er for the safety of pilgrims on board to the 13500 ft Amarnath cave, considered to be a resort of Lord Shiva an d Parvati. The Yatra begins from July 1 and is to end on August 15..The 46-day yatra is crucial for the maintenance of peace. And hitherto the Centre has sanctioned deployment 40,000 CRPF personnel alongwith some companies of police. The pilgrims, whose base has been changed since the rise of militancy, is Jammu and right from the winter capital to Pahalgam and Baltal the yatris cavalcade is to be escorted right from Jammu to Pahalgam and Baltal. Besides the heavy deployment of the police and the CRPF several companies of the Army to be deployed around the cave shrine several companies of Mountain Rescue Teams may be deployed in the most sensitive spots including from Pahalgam and the cave shrine and between Baltal and the cave shrine. The most of the pilgrims have to take shelter in the hotels, houseboats and guest houses. And this may yield added revenue to these hotels.
After the failure of the tourist traffic to Kashmir since 1990 because of the scare created by militants, the state banks on pilgrim tourism. You have one hand 80 lakh pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and on the other hand over 3 to 6 lakh yatris visit the Amarnath cave. It gives a lot of money to those who bank on tourist arrivals. Though those pilgrims, who visit the Vaishno Devi Shrine, are practically safe because there is no danger of militant strike and whereas those visiting Amarnath shrine have to face a lot of problems and that too from the activities of militants. Hence the state Government and the Centre have to upgrade the security grid so that no militant is able to attack some of the yatris.
Bar code, enumeration points, telecommunication facilities along the yatra routes may be provided. Right from the checkpost of Lakhanpur the security arrangements have been tightened and there is a provision for enumeration of the pilgrims to the cave and on their return from the cave.
The safety of each pilgrim would denote the arrangements are foolproof or not. These pilgrims to Amarnath cave and Vaishno Devi bring wealth to the state and even the ponywallas, transporters an d the traders get benefit of the rush of the pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi and Amarnath cave. And the rise in Pakistan sponsored militancy has crushed these hotlieres, poneywallas, transporters and traders.
