Mainstream parties skip police officer's wreath lying ceremony
Running with hare, hunting with hounds!

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 17: The duplicity of Kashmir-based mainstream leaders once again came to fore on Monday when all of them in unison preferred not to attend the wreath laying ceremony of police officer Arshad Ahmad Khan who was injured in a militant attack at Anantnag on June 12 and succumbed to injuries at AIIMS in Delhi on Sunday.
The wreath laying ceremony of slain SHO Anantnag was held at District Police Lines (DPL) Srinagar on Monday.
Many senior police officials paid their homage to the slain police officer. Besides Advisor Kumar, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Munir Khan, Deputy Inspector General and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar and others were present in the wreath laying ceremony. The officers also paid floral tributes to the slain officer. Emotional scenes were also witnessed during the wreath laying ceremony as many officers including SSP Srinagar Haseeb Mughal besides the family members of slain were seen crying while paying floral tributes to the slain officer.
What is ironic is the stoic silence maintained by Kashmir-based mainstream political parties including National Conference and the PDP, with leaders of both the parties preferring to stay away from the last rites of the slain police officer.
Ironically, these are the same political leaders who in order to enjoy the luxuries of power coin novel emotional slogans to hoodwink masses. As during the campaign of the last month parliament polls, NC vice president Omar Abdullah demanded separate Prime Minister for the state of Jammu and Kashmir and even promised the same with the electorate.
On the other hand, the PDP left no stone unturned to dye itself in separatist colour. The PDP president in April this year even went to the extent of stating that there are apprehensions that Pulwama suicide attack on a CRPF convoy was 'fake' and a probe should be initiated so that the truth comes out. This had sent shock waves all across with people questioning how could a person who herself has been the chief minister could question the veracity of such a gruesome suicide attack and want to probe the sacrifices of 40 CRPF jawans who lost their lives in the attack.
The mainstream political groups in Kashmir have been doing everything to garner votes and seldom leave a stone unturned to present themselves more rigorous than the diehard separatists. From hailing militants to terming India as an occupation, they do everything to create fear psychosis among the people.
In the month of March, this year, Mehbooba had predicted that by 2020, India's relations with Jammu and Kashmir will be over if Article 35-A is scrapped and at the same time this former chief minister said India will be viewed as an occupational force if it revokes Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
"The relationship between our state and the country is based on our special constitutional position that legitimises it. If we remove, what legalises this relationship, it will turn into an occupation", Mehbooba said.
