Civic amenities still distant dream in Sector 1, 2, 3 of Gangyal: Locals tell Munish
Mass contact programme continues
6/23/2019 11:31:08 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 23: Dilapidated lanes, choked drains, dysfunctional streetlights greet a visitor in Gangyal area, particular Sector No. 1, 2 and 3.
Residents of the locality while interacting with the Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Sunday said that their repeated pleas have fallen flat as officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and even the local corporator have not paid any heed.
Munish, who would be contesting the upcoming coming Assembly election as an Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency, conducted extensive tour in Gangyal areas as part of his mass contact programme today. Residents narrated their problems to him.
Munish assured the people that if he is elected, all the civic amenities would be restored on priority basis. Locals said that the present councilor Baldev Singh Billowaria, who was elected from this area with a huge margin and recently became chairman of Sanitation Committee JMC, seems "least bothered" about his own ward as it has been craving for sanitation for long.
Umesh Chander Sharma of Sant Enclave told Munish that the drain of his ward is totally blocked. "Stinking drains that too without steel grills have made lives of common people miserable. No safaikaramchari comes here to clean these drains and if someone comes occasionally, they never clear the silt," he added.
"We are living here from last five months but JMC has not even installed a single dustbin to dump garbage. Residents throw garbage in a vacant plot in the locality", said Jash Pal Singh.
Shama, a Kashmiri migrant said that "from past 30 years we have lived here with a hope that someone will come forward to listen our ordeal. Our guests, relatives don't even attend marriage ceremony in our area as there is no transport facility available here. If someone has to come from Muthi to Gangyal, he or she has to pay only Rs 20 to cover more than 20 kilometer distance. But to reach our home which is merely 2 Kms from Gangyal Bus stop, they have to pay Rs 70 as auto fare."
"We have brought this matter into the notice of the politicians, Transport Commissioners and others on many occasions but till date nothing has been done and we continue to suffer," said Vinod Koul of Sector 3, residing near the Shiv Temple.
"Potable water supply is erratic and it doesn't reach the houses located at the tail end as the diameter of pipes is very small. From last two days we are without water. We have approached PHE department, Grievance Cell of JMC but nobody has even took the cognizance of our compliant," said Anu Verma, residing near the St, Plul Convent School at Gangyal Garden.
Gita Sharma and Gurmeet Singh told Munish, not a single streetlight has been installed in their chowk despite repeatedly appeals to the local councillor. Recently our main lane was blacktopped by JMC but they left by lanes untouched due to unknown reason.
"When we asked them why they left by lanes untouched they told us that tender was only for main lane. However, some influential who are close to local corporator got the by lanes leading to their houses blacktopped," they added.
