Kashmir based candidates get extension, Jammu candidates ignored
Discrimination with Jammu in contractual engagements
6/26/2019 12:18:25 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 25: The state Higher Education department has been accused of discriminating with Jammu candidates in contractual engagements.
The locals said that while Valley based candidates were given extension, the Jammu candidates have been ignored.
The Jammu based candidates informed Early Times that the yearly session of Kashmir division for engagement of contractual faculty members in the colleges was from 1st March to 28th of February, while the session in Jammu division was from August 1 to 31st of July every year.
In Kashmir division the advertisement for reengagement of contractual faculty is to be announced in December every year and the process has to be completed till February but under a well planned conspiracy, the Kashmir based candidates were given extensions rather than holding fresh engagement process.
The first extension to the Kashmir based contractual faculty was granted from 28th of February to 31st of March while on 30/3/2019, the Kashmir based candidates were given second extension from 30th March 2019 to 31st of July 2019.
"The authorities had to re-engage the contractual faculty in Kashmir colleges in December but they willfully failed and secondly they gave two extensions, on the pretext of imposition of Model Code of Conduct but it was a total lie as when the extensions were given, no MCC was in place", a candidate said, adding that though the session of Jammu based candidates was from August 1 to 31st July of next year but this year the session of Jammu based candidates has been expiring on 30th June, with no further extension on the analogy of Kashmir based candidates, which revealed open discrimination.
The candidates further claimed that systematically the authorities have been favouring Kashmir based candidates by giving them maximum opportunities and benefits. "Clandestinely the department has been completing the engagement of contractual faculty process in Jammu division first, so that maximum of Kashmir based candidates will get adjusted in Jammu based colleges and later in Kashmir division, which will again help the Kashmir based candidates", the candidates said, adding that it was also apparent from the ongoing contractual faculty engagement process.
In Jammu division, the authorities have been burning midnight oil to complete the process by 30th June 2019, but in Kashmir division there was no further progress in the process of contractual engagements, despite the fact that advertisement as well as last date of filling application for the posts was same for Jammu as well as Kashmir division.
"In Kashmir division more than 600 contractual faculty have taken status-quo on their engagements but department failed to get the status-quo revoked, due to their alleged deliberate lethargic approach, which favours Kashmir based candidates", they said, adding that either the contractual engagement process must be held simultaneously in Jammu as well as Kashmir or the process must be done on provincial basis, to get rid of discriminatory policies of the department.
