Mirwaiz welcomes dialogue, JKLF opposes, Geelani keeps mum
Separatist camp divided over talks
6/26/2019 11:49:04 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 26: Much ahead of any proposed dialogue process, cracks within the separatist camp have become visible with Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) in open expressing discontent over holding talks with New Delhi.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on the contrary had earlier welcomed any such move that could initiate reconciliation between the separatists and New Delhi.
On last Friday of Muslim holy month, Ramadan, when faithful in hordes went to offer congregational prayers at Kashmir's Jamia Masjid, region's most influential separatist and religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq went upto the mosque's pulpit and made an unpredictable statement.
This 46-year old separatist leader who enjoys influence in Kashmir's political landscape wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide a bulwark against the swirling tides in Kashmir.
This tectonic shift was found when Mirwaiz made an open offer from the pulpit of the grand old mosque to the Indian government for the resolution of seven decade old conflict. "People of India overwhelmingly voted for Mr. Modi. This mandate gives PM Modi an opportunity and the power to play a decisive role in resolution of the issue. It is an opportune time to initiate political processes," said Mirwaiz as lakhs of devotees were all ears to such an incalculable offer.
Now, when speculations are rife that talks shall be held between New Delhi and separatists, cracks within their conglomerate have begin to widen with each passing day.
A fresh indication was observed from the statement of JKLF which went in total contrast to what Mirwaiz has been saying. The Front came out with a statement which stated that government's seriousness for talks is missing on ground. ""On one hand Govt. is imposing bans on political organizations like JKLF and JeI. While as on the other hand they are trying to hoodwink the international community by staging an impression of dialogue," said the front spokesman.
Furthermore, the Hurriyat Conference headed by Pro- Pakistan Geelani is maintaining a stoic silence on dialogue and whether that is acceptable to him. Ever since, Mirwaiz made an open offer to government of India for talks, Geelani has not uttered a single word. He has instead preferred to keep his cards close to the chest, hinting that he could anytime act as a spoilsport or a catalyst in the entire dialogue process.
Meanwhile, the icing on the cake is that the separatists seem to have understood that they no longer can keep their stubbornness intact and alive. The NIA raids while exposing them to the core have also made them realise that locking horns is now a thing of past and that they would do better if they fall in line and make prevalence of peace in the crises ridden valley possible.
It is only time that will now reveal how the situation is going to be and whether the dialogue aimed at calming things down will ever see light of the day.
