BJP cheated people on name of development: Ekta Vihar residents tell Munish
Mass Contact Programme Continues
6/27/2019 12:33:47 AM

Jammu, June 26: Ekta Vihar of Gangyal considered to be one of the posh areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency is a glaring instance of apathy and neglect. The area has no dustbin, lanes are dilapidated and drains are choked.
Editor of Early Times, Munish Gupta, who would be contesting the upcoming Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, today conducted extensively tour of Ekta Vihar and its adjoining market and heard the problems of common man as part of his mass contact programme.
Residents criticized Congress and BJP leaders, who they said only “befool” the people on the name of development. “They come here during election season but after getting elected they forget development, civic and other issues,” residents told Munish.
Residents alleged that the BJP MLA who represented Gandhi Nagar constituency during the past five years “cheated people on name of development. BJP had promised us Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas but after winning the elections they forgot about Jammu’s vikas and concentrated on their own vikas by getting huge commission from the development funds from the local contractor,” they further alleged.
“Following the footstep of Congress, BJP during its tenure got old drains dismantled,” they added.
“In the lane No. 8 of our colony roads were blacktopped by the authorities just 2-months ago, but within a short period black topping gave off,” said Darshan Kour.
“By lanes in our locality have not been constructed so far. Electric poles were installed in a our locality long time ago. The electric wires have been hanging dangerously which pose a threat to human lives,” Darshan Kour added.
Regarding poor civic amenities they informed local ward representatives but their pleas fell into deaf ears. The transformer has been installed in middle of the lane which obstructs the movement. “The nonchalant attitude of PDD could be gauged from the fact that in lane No. 4 all the homes were covered by three phase electric wire but only five houses were left out the whole mohalla is enjoying uninterrupted electricity but we are facing fluctuation that too when temperature coupled with humidity is soaring,” Laxmi Manhas told Munish.
Krishan Lal informed that the maximum streetlights were installed years back. “These have become defunct and whole area has been reeling under darkness. If the concerned department is not able to repair and restore the streetlights it should not have installed these street lights. In July, 2018 I registered a complaint of fused streetlight before a Civic Body through call but they never came forward for restoring it. Again on May 8, 2019 filed I a complaint over dysfunctional streetlights of lane No. 4 through online and complain No is 12001 but till date no one has responded”, said Manjeet Kumar.
