Jammu, July 11: Rued over damaged embankment of Ranbir Canal passes Nai Basti, the residents said that due to negligence of on the part of concerned the Canal 'irrigates' adjoin road and the shops.
Local shopkeepers Raj Kumar Gupta, Jeet Ram, Harbans Lal, Lal Chand, Nanak Chand, Madan Lal, Ashok Sharma, Ramesh Kumar, Subash Gupta, Ashok Sharma and other informed Early Times team during a visit of the area Thursday, former MLA Kavinder Gupta promised to clean the stretch of the Canal years back but he never find time to fulfill his promises till the date he left Chair after fall of the BJP-PDP Government in June last year.
"We met him at his residence over the issue of damaged sides of the Canal, but he time and again only made promises with that could not see day lights, it is not the matter of an individual, but a common for locals and the passerby", they said adding that Irrigation Department is also not taking pain of damaged Canal.
"At several places, embankment of the Canal has been damaged, even after minor overflow water comes on road and even some time enters our shops. Due to over flow in canal road stretch along the canal has been damaged, it looks like pits", said the angry shopkeepers and added that politicians believes to make promises, but not to fulfill the promises.
Here we have a small market, including fish market and several other shops on the right side of the canal, similarly many shops on the left side of the canal. "There are no proper arrangements to maintain cleanliness are in place, it force the residents to keep garbage along the Canal, but during the monsoon, the garbage dumped by the local becomes cause of concern", they said and added that the local Councilor has also visited the site on several time, but he himself find it difficult to fulfill peoples' demand.
"We appeal to Governor's administration trough Early Times, kindly take our unaddressed genuine issues", they said adding that water logging in their area also affect their business.
