Congress, BJP ignored our miseries: Model town residents tell Munish
7/12/2019 12:21:03 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 11: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, who would be contesting the upcoming election from Gandhi Nagar constituency as an independent candidate, on Thursday interacted with the residents of Model Town of Gangyal as part of his mass contact programme.
Residents of Model Town narrated their miseries to Munish particular lack of sanitation, dilapidated roads and lanes and low voltage problem.
However, in recently held Corporation election, both BJP and Congress made tall claims that all the basic civic amenities would be ensured after election but after getting elected, they forgot our miseries and their promises have proved to be a mere rhetoric.
Lanes and Drains
Lanes and drains of Model Town Sector 6 are in dilapidated condition. Garbage is littered in the lanes due to absence of dustbin. "However before Corporation election, the incumbent councillor had made promises that all the basic amenities would be ensured but after getting elected they forgot", said Shoba Singh.
Jatinder Kour said that despite repeated pleas to the concerned authorities for installing a dustbin in front our chowk they did nothing. Entire garbage is dumped in front of my home in a vacant plot. The foul smell emanating from heaps of garbage, gives sleepless night. The plot filled with garbage has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies. "Our repeatedly pleas to sanitation employees who come here for cleanliness have fallen flat", said Sukdev Singh.
"Our lanes were constructed in 2004, thereafter nobody came forward for blacktoppin. Now all the lanes are in shambles. Overflowing frains have added to our miseries," said Pyara Singh.
Low Voltage
Low voltage has made lives of Model Town residents miserable. "Our appliances have gone kaput due to low voltage. Refrigerators, ACs, fans and motors don't function properly due to frequent power curtailment", said Rakesh Kumar.
Disabled by paralysis attack
Forty five year old, Vaid Paul resident of Marakhari (Model Town), a barber, used to make Rs 200 to Rs 300 a day. The sole breadwinner in a family of four, including his wife and four children. Today he is leading a miserable life as a paralysis stroke has left him 100% disabled.
He informed Munish that since December 2017 he is unable to arrange even one meal for his family.
He said that he applied for pension in Social Welfare Department and even officer and local corporator assured him that he would get the pension soon. Even after three years nothing has been done to mitigate sufferings.
