Early Times Report

Jammu, July 15: Accusing BJP and Congress of betraying their trust, the residents of Khawaskhan village alleged that nobody turned up after winning elections, resulting their problems related to lanes, drains were never addressed.
Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who would be contesting upcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, during his mass contact programme today visited Khawaskhan village and met the local residents and heard their problems.
POVERTY
There are many families in Khawaskhan village which have no permanent house and living in Kucha house which have temporary roof which leaks during rains. "I am living in single room which has temporary roof and due to no source of income I am not in position to construct the roof.
I tried hard to get some financial assistance but nobody came forward to help me from the government. Even we have no toilet facility which is being provided by the government," said Janak Raj, Joginder Kumar. Seetu Devi said that her husband work as laborers and she has two children but their house is in dilapidated condition and tin sheets are laid on the house which need permanent roof but in absence of any financial assistance we could not repair it.
Shakuntla Devi, an elderly woman, was literally in anger against the BJP, Congress for not helping poor. "My house is in dilapidated condition as it leaks in rains. We repair it with mud to save ourselves from rains during rainy season. I requested the MLA, Sarpanch, Panch to help me by providing financial assistance so that I may construct it but all leaders betrayed by giving hollow promises of help," she said.
NO ROAD CONNECTIVITY
There are few families, which have no road connectivity and they had to reach their houses by crossing fields. "We have no road connectivity to our houses. The lanes in the village were tiled but our stretch which is of 100-150 meters was left as some people have encroached upon the road. Although there is a road in Revenue record but authority hardly bothers to take action against the encroachers," said Garo Devi and Garu Ram.
IRRIGATION CANAL
Some residents who solely depend on agriculture have no access to irrigation canal. "The Irrigation Department has not constructed irrigation tributaries upto our fields due to which we face shortage of water and I suffer huge loss. I requested the department for the help but till date no action has been taken to sort out my problem," Mushtaq Ahmad said.
LAND GRABBING
There is another issue which came into light was land grabbing by fudging revenue record by the some outsiders. Subhash Chander, who is the resident of Khawaskhan, was attacked by some goons in land issue in 2016 but he alleged that police didn't help him. "Some land grabbers encroached my land by producing fake documents, which was actually belongs to me, I got stay order. These goons attached me in 2016 with sharp edged weapon and I lost my hand and now I am unable to work but police till date failed to take action against culprit," he said.
OLD AGE PENSION
There are many elderly people in the area, who are without Old Age Pension benefit. "We asked Kavinder Gupta and other leaders for the help to get us Old Age Pension but he didn't help us. Although we all members of village cost votes in his favour but he didn't turn up to help us," said Lal Chand.
Desa Singh and Satya Devi have the same problem. "We filled up forms for Old Age Pension with Social Welfare Department but till date we are deprived of the benefits. Moreover we are living in tin house and asked the concerned MLA to help them for construction of roof but instead of assurances nothing happened.
NO TRANSPORTATION
Absence of public/private transportation has become the huge problem for this village and for the adjoining villages. Expressing her anger against the BJP and Congress for hoodwinking them with their hollow assurances, Veena Devi said that ever since the existence of this village, no public/ private transportation facility has been given due to which the entire villagers face huge problems.
"We requested to the Kavinder Gupta and other Congress leaders to provide transportation facility but till date it has not been done," she said.
NO PHE CONNECTION
Despite laying down the supply pipe line by the PHE, the connections have not been given by the department. "It has been more than year, the PHE department had laid down pipe lines but no connection has been given to the people," said Kartaro Devi.
