SHO tightens noose on mining mafia to extract more money
7/17/2019 12:45:57 AM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 16: An Inspector holding the charge of Station House Officer (SHO) of one of the police stations in district Jammu is trying to fix and enlarge the deals with the mining mafia active in the area where he is posted.
Sources informed Early Times that the SHO is pushing hard to enhance the amount fixed for carrying out the illegal sand and gravel mining in the area.
"The Inspector is not satisfied with the amount he is presently getting in lieu of the illegal mining. He desperately wants to increase the rate and to realize this very objective he is not relying on any policeman under his command but one of his special friends," said sources.
"While the SHO has engaged his close friend for this work, he is also taking full advantage of one of his Police Post Incharge," sources added.
Sources said that the Inspector is using all his links to perfection to perform the desired job as he is a local and knows exactly whom to use and where adding that by keeping the Police Post Incharge in front, the SHO is attempting to exert maximum pressure on the mining mafia to mint extra money.
Sources further said that the Inspector's friend engaged for the purpose comes into the picture only after the mining mafia buckles completely under the pressure applied by SHO's subordinate.
According to sources, this Inspector is an inhabitant of district Jammu adding that he has served as Police Post (PP) Incharge earlier in the district. Later, he moved out of district Jammu.
"The Inspector taking advantage of few recommendations managed to secure a transfer to district Jammu following which he was also able to get picked as SHO of one of the police stations. Surprisingly, order to this effect was issued in a hush-hush manner,"
"Soon after taking over the charge of the police station, the SHO started to tighten his grasp on the mining mafia carrying out illegal trade in his area. The police officer began to harass mining mafia on one pretext or the other so that he could extract more money from them, however, he laid hands on only a few people," sources added.
Sources said that although the illegal mining of sand and gravel in the area during night hours has been going on since long time but after this police officer came, he laid stressed on increasing the rate of graft with the active support and help of his PP Incharge while his 'special' friend is palying the role of a middle-man.
"The recommendation of SHO's friend is necessary for land mafia as only those, who fall in line to his friend's dictates, are allowed to carry out the illegal mining while whosever unwilling to pay the demanded amount is not allowed to do any work in the area. It is in such a way that the police officer is trying to widen his network in the area.
